Models have played a huge role in guiding decision making during the pandemic.  But models are well understood to be neither true nor false, but rather adequate or not to a purpose. This makes model building highly value laden, because purposes are values.   In this talk I will explore the role of value judgments in a small model used to guide vaccine policy and then move on to apply what we learn from that example to the case of the major models that led to the adoption of many of the policy choices we have experienced during the pandemic.
